Personally I'd go with the G series... I believe the latest is the G11, but you'd probably be VERY happy with anything above a G9. Basically their target market with the G series are pros and amateurs who own higher end SLRs for when they don't have the space to carry them/ it'd be inconvenient to do so. Which means there are very high standards to live up to, in terms of picture quality, flexibility and quality of construction. |

Canon makes great quality cameras. There is little difference between the 2 you're looking at. The 1200 should do a little better in low light because it has a wider aperture. For about the same price you can get SX20 IS. It has a 10x optical zoom which is a nice feature to have. But any of them are good choices. usa.canon.com/ consumer/ controller?act= ModelInfoAct &fcategoryid= 144 &modelid= 19211 |

The Canon SD1200 IS is a tad quicker in "next shot delay, a tad better in battery life, and a tad cheaper than the SD 780 IS. One answerer mentioned the G Series, which cost as much as an entry level DSLR. |

Both are good camera to get. If you want HD video Canon SD780is ti your choice but if you don't mind that then save $50 and get SD1200is amazon.com/ gp/ redirect.html?ie= UTF8 &location= http%3A%2F%2Famazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26high-price%3D200%26x%3D0%26redirect%3Dtrue%26ref_%3Dsr%5Fnr%5Fp%5F36%5F0%26low-price%3D130%26bbn%3D330405011%26y%3D0%26qid%3D1268702581%26rnid%3D386442011%26rh%3Dn%253A502394%252Cn%253A281052%252Cn%253A330405011%252Cp%5F4%253ACanon%252Cp%5F36%253A14000-20099 &tag= computer0bd-20 &linkCode= ur2 &camp= 1789 &creative= 390957 |

Since they are so similar, and they both have an optical viewfinder, I'd go with the SD780. Why? They get better owner reviews. dpreview.com/ reviews/ compare_post.asp?method= sidebyside &cameras= canon_sd1200is%2Ccanon_sd780is &show= all |

I know EXACTLY what you're going through... I've been trying to decide between those exact same models. What I decided tonight is to wait for the SD1400IS, which will be out very soon (it's already on display at BestBuy). My guess is that they're trying to sell off their stock of the SD780's first because the SD1400IS looks very similar, so there MIGHT be some deals on those soon (I've seen them for about $180 recently). The SD1200IS is a little bit thicker than both of the other models. The new SD1400IS is just a little bit longer than both of the other models (but that's because the screen is a little bigger). Both the 780 and the 1400 have HD video capabilities. Some of the cool features on the SD1400IS is that it has 4X (instead of 3X on the other two), 28mm wide-angle lens with some cool features (like fish eye!). Of course, more megapixels, which doesn't matter much unless you're printing poster-size pictures. Also, it's supposed to be a lot better in LOW LIGHT, which is one of the complaints I've seen about the SD780. The only downside that I can see so far (besides the lack of reviews since it's brand new) is that there is no view finder on the 1400 and the retail will be $250 ($50-70 more than the 780 is currently). All that said, I will also mention that I have a Canon SX10IS, which I LOVE! There's a newer model (SX20IS), which does HD video, but some say the pictures aren't quite as sharp. I'm sure either one would be an excellent camera (better than all of the ones mentioned above), BUT it's a lot bigger. I can't take it with me everywhere (or at least I don't want to because I can't just stick it in my pocket). Hope that helps! Good luck with whatever you decide and happy shooting! |

Actually they both are similar the only thing is Canon PowerShot SD780 supports HD video capability, so if this is your requirement then go for Canon PowerShot SD780 amazon.com/ gp/ redirect.html?ie= UTF8 &location= http%3A%2F%2Famazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26high-price%3D200%26x%3D0%26redirect%3Dtrue%26ref_%3Dsr%5Fnr%5Fp%5F36%5F5%26low-price%3D100%26bbn%3D330405011%26y%3D0%26qid%3D1268702581%26rnid%3D386442011%26rh%3Dn%253A502394%252Cn%253A281052%252Cn%253A330405011%252Cp%5F4%253ACanon &tag= bestdeals-y-20 &linkCode= ur2 &camp= 1789 &creative= 390957 |
